He may be the betting underdog, but Anthony Joshua seems supremely confident he will sweep rival Tyson Fury aside in six rounds.
A two-fight series between WBC heavyweight king Fury and WBA Super, WBO and IBF title-holder Joshua has been agreed in principle, and that colossal fight inched a bit closer when WBC No.1 contender and looming mandatory Dillian Whyte was stunned in five rounds by Alexander Povetkin on Saturday.
But before the first Fury-Joshua mega-fight can take place in 2021, ‘The Gypsy King’ must negotiate a trilogy clash with Deontay Wilder and Joshua must get past IBF mandatory Kubrat Pulev. Both fights are tentatively scheduled for December after a delay caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic.
When the fight with Fury does happen, Joshua, a current 6-4 outsider with BetFred, believes he will simply be too fresh and ferocious.
“I have a lot of respect for the man. He’s a good family man and a good fighter, but on the other hand, I want to break his head,” said Joshua on an appearance on Sky One’s ‘A League Of Their Own’.
“First six rounds, I think, well I know, I’m going to take him out then.
“I have had a shorter career, so I’m fresher. I’ve been in the deep end longer so I can handle the pressure and I believe I’m going to take him out.
“Fury drew the first [fight] and then rejigged his gameplan and took Wilder out and schooled him really, but I think I’m faster than Wilder anyway. Call it what you want, I believe I’m better.”
