Former Olympic gold medalist Audley Harrison has broken down a potential fight between countryman Anthony Joshua and one time opponent Deontay Wilder.
In his last professional bout back in 2013, Harrison was stopped in less than a round by Wilder, who was then making his name as a contender before going on to be crowned world champion.
Speaking to ESNews, Harrison admits that he feels the “old” version of Joshua would have been better suited to causing ‘The Bronze Bomber’ some problems.
“Styles make fights, and the old version of Joshua – coming forward aggressively, bouncing off the line, throwing combinations – that would have been a tough time for Deontay.”
“But Deontay’s got that beautiful right hand, and he’s working with Malik now who’s giving him some of the nuances that he needs.”
“It’s a beautiful fight. If it happens, I might have to fly to Saudi Arabia to see it!”
Joshua and Wilder are tipped to lock horns in Saudi Arabia this December, on a blockbuster bill that could also feature an undisputed world title fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
‘AJ’ had been scheduled to fight in July, potentially against old rival Dillian Whyte, but these plans now seem to have put on the back burner inorder to avoid risking the mammoth payday on offer from Skills Challenge Group.
Promoter Eddie Hearn did not rule out the possibility of his golden goose having a stay busy fight in the summer, but conceded it would not be against a top level heavyweight.
‘AJ’ is no stranger to boxing in Saudi Arabia, with the country playing host to his successful rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019 as well as his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last August.
A figure of £300 million is said to be on offer as the total purse for the event, which would make it the richest in boxing history.
