New IBF, WBA, WBO and WBC Franchise lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr says he plans on bringing big time boxing to Australia following his stunning win over Teofimo Lopez.
Kambosos made a mockery of his pre-fight underdog tag by knocking down and outpointing Teofimo Lopez in New York last month.
After not fighting in Australia since 2017, Kambosos insists any big-name lightweight that wants a shot at him must travel to his home turf. WBC champion Devin Haney has already confirmed he would be willing to do so.
“It’s a big moment for everyone that’s been around me – a big moment for Australia,” Kambosos told Fox Sports. “This is huge. I had to go and really earn it.
“I had to go to the backyard multiple times and to go and beat this guy in his prime and in his hometown, no Australian fighter’s ever done that before. So these belts mean a lot and they mean a lot to the whole of our country.”
“A big fight [is coming] and we’re going to bring that to a massive stadium, 80,000 people. Haney, Davis, Lomachenko, Garcia – they’re all going to get it!”
