Lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr has accused rival Devin Haney of manipulation and playing games as a fight between the two looks nowhere near being finalised.
Kambosos, one of the success stories of 2021 having taken the WBA, IBF and WBO world titles from Teofimo Lopez, will announce his first defence this month. At one stage Haney, the current WBC champion (while Kambosos is ‘Franchise’ holder) looked the favourite but Vasily Lomachenko and Ryan Garcia have now entered the frame.
Haney himself appears to have grown tired of business at 135lbs and is eyeing a move five pounds north for two-weight glory. Kambosos and Haney have had plenty to say to one another even though a punch hasn’t been thrown and the Australian continued the trend last night.
“When I said ‘Now we can talk’ I meant it! I didn’t expect Devin Haney for you to manipulate and play games,” Kambosos wrote on Twitter.
“Eddie Hearn what’s wrong with your boy! Yes, or no? DAZN got no faith in him? Hey Vasyl Lomachenko tell Bob Arum to make a serious offer to Lou DiBella. I’m waiting.”
Once again, a fight that looked a realistic prospect of getting across the line now appears further away than ever.
