Recent footage of Kell Brook back in the gym prompted Conor Benn to publicly state that the former world welterweight champion had ducked him. Brook has now responded with his own version of events.
Brook retired from the sport following a much sought after victory in a bitter domestic rivalry with Amir Khan. Since then, there has been talk of a ring return, but that was recently hampered by a leaked video of him appearing to take cocaine.
Now after seeking help and gaining a newfound motivation, Brook is back in the gym – and Benn, who had been rumoured as a comeback opponent for ‘Special K’, was quick to comment.
The young welterweight who has been embroiled in a doping scandal said that when they had discussed a fight, Brook chose ‘retirement instead’, and hinted at a sparring session being the driving reason.
Brook responded, claiming it was Benn who ended the session in the gym early.
“Who are you kidding? You’re the one who cut the sparring short. Don’t flatter yourself, pussy.”
Benn fired back quickly again, claiming to have footage of how it unfolded.
“Stop talking s**t. You know the footage begs to differ!”

Whatever happened in training camp, it seems that there’s the makings of a fight here – although it’s not without its hurdles.
Brook is clearly at the beginning of his training, and it’s unclear if it’s just to shake the cobwebs off or if he’s pursuing a serious return.
Benn, on the other hand, is without a British license and could be for some time. It would be a shame for fans if an intriguing domestic clash landed abroad, but as things stands that’s what would have to happen.
The young fighter, whilst still involved in legal cases and fan speculation, is said to be fighting in June, with retired boxing legend, Manny Pacquiao, top of the list to be in the other corner.
