The IBF welterweight belt will be on the line as defending champion Kell Brook faces challenger Errol Spence Jr. ‘Special K’ is already making big promises about his fourth title defense and he is confident it will be a memorable one.
“This could definitely be the fight of the year, we are both as passionate for it as each other. But I am desperate to keep it [the world title] in the steel city,” said Brook in a press conference in Sheffield on Thursday.
Brook went through a struggle with his weight cut but is in good spirits now physically and mentally. He also predicts a lot of action especially in the first round.
“I just do what I do best. I’ve had a fantastic camp, I have been pushed as far as I can. He is a very good fighter, our styles will gel, there will be a lot of drama. We will both probably hit the canvas. There will be fireworks from round one,” Brook continued.
One thing is for certain, after going up to face Golovkin and coming back down to take on Spence Jr, Brook isn’t ducking anybody. He has shown excellent determination and discipline, even if it sometimes means going against what your team advises.
“My team wanted me to move up, but there is no way I want to move up and give that title away. I got on top of the weight early, fit and healthy and will be firing on all cylinders. I’ve got faith in my nutritionist Greg Marriott, he never stops learning, so he has been trying to keep me happy in training camp.”
Brook and Spence Jr will go toe to toe tomorrow at Bramall Lane in Sheffield.
