Amir Khan and his new trainer Brian ‘Bomac’ McIntyre will have their first fight together on Saturday and the Olympic medallist believes that a change was needed in his corner.
Khan, who has worked with the likes of the late Oliver Harrison as well as Freddie Roach and Virgil Hunter joined up with Team Bomac for his grudge match against Kell Brook at Manchester Arena.
“I needed things to be fresh,” the former world champion told Boxing Social’s Andi Purewal after today’s fiery press conference.
“I needed things to be new and I needed someone to push me and Bomac is the right choice.”
Training in Omaha allowed Khan to train alongside former opponent and three-weight world champion Terence Crawford who is McIntyre’s star pupil. Crawford, who has also fought and beat Brook convincingly, is in Manchester to support his new gym-mate.
Emotions ran high at today’s presser with accusations and insults flying back and forth between both fighters and trainers. Khan said he would give Brook a ‘beating’ while Brook vows to ‘smash him in’.
“He better be ready,” answered Khan when Boxing Social asked him for a final message for Brook.
“At the end of the day I’m gonna do my talking with the fists. I’ll keep quiet now. Emotions are high and I’m gonna keep calm.”
