IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby is ready to take on Carl Frampton as soon as possible. Frampton’s fight against Andres Gutierrez got cancelled just hours before the event due to Gutierrez’s injury. ‘The Jackal’ also came a pound overweight.
According to Cyclone Promotions, they are trying to reschedule the fight, but Selby says he’s willing to give Frampton a shot right away.
“He should come straight now into a world title fight against me. It makes sense rather than waiting around. Should they abandon plans to rearrange with Gutierrez? That would make sense. We should do it in October or November now,” said Selby.
Selby believes that there is no reason to wait around because there is no telling when Gutierrez will recover from his injuries. The Mexican fighter suffered damage to his jaw and teeth after falling in the shower. However, Selby won’t wait around much longer for Frampton. First come, first serve.
“It makes sense rather than waiting around. Do they know how long this guy will take to recover? I don’t know. As I say I’m not waiting around. I want the big fights so whoever comes first. Whoever comes first with a contract that my team are happy with then we will be signing that and fighting,” explained the IBF champion.
