Speculation of a fight between Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr will now go up a notch after the Liverpudlian signed a multi-fight agreement with Boxxer.
The promotional outfit’s CEO Ben Shalom had said this week that “The perfect fight” for Eubank Jr is against ‘Beefy’. Smith now joins the middleweight in have his fights televised on Sky Sports bringing the possibility of the two facing one another a lot closer.
The 33-year-old has campaigned at Super Welterweight for his whole career but would be willing to jump six pounds to fight Eubank Jr.
Smith had been working with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom but has now crossed the street to join Boxxer. And last time out Smith stopped Jesse Vargas in the 10th round of their long-awaited bout which took place at Madison Square Garden on the Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano undercard.
The former WBO Super Welterweight champion is currently ranked in the top five across three of the four sanctioning bodies and is aiming for another shot at a world title.
“I’m delighted to put pen to paper with Boxxer,” Smith said in the press release announcement.
“I had a lot of offers but I’m glad to finally get this across the line and be back on Sky Sports. Boxxer are doing great things in the sport and making big waves and I’m happy to be part of that.
“Some of the big fights and names have excited me and I’m really looking forward to the next twelve months with my next fight to be announced shortly. I can’t wait to get back out there and challenge for a world title at 154 pounds and get everyone talking about me again.”
Smith is the latest addition to the Boxxer ranks who have recently acquired the likes of Joseph Parker and Ben Whittaker in recent weeks.
