Vasiliy Lomachenko has given his opinion on the trilogy bout between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin – and believes injury prevented the Kazakh from operating at full capacity at the T-Mobile Arena.
Lomachenko, who was in attendance on Saturday night, noticed Golovkin was using mainly his left hand for the majority of the contest – and Loma told FightHype this could be down to an injury suffered on the opposite arm.
“It was a very interesting, historical fight. But I think Golovkin had a problem with his health.”
“The whole fight, he worked using only used his left hand.”
“But nobody knows – this is boxing.”
The third meeting between Canelo and Golovkin was seen as the least entertaining by many fans online, as the Mexican won a comfortable unanimous decision against a ‘Triple G’ whose best years looked well behind him.
Focus has now shifted towards Canelo and what his next move will be, with a rematch against Dmitry Bivol the fight on the lips of many – enthusiasm shared by Lomachenko.
“The fight with Bivol is interesting, very interesting.”
“I think Canelo needs this rematch.”
As for Lomachenko himself, all the signs point towards the great Ukrainian getting a shot at the undisputed lightweight championship in the first half of 2023 – provided he comes through his comeback fight against Jamaine Ortiz next month, and current champion Devin Haney is victorious in his rematch against George Kambosos Jr.
