As Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis get ready to sign off on a final fight contract, the man who many still believe is the best lightweight in the world has made his prediction.
The latest news from negotiations is that there is a contract ready to be signed, sent by ‘Tank’s team to Garcia’s. It means that the fight – pencilled in for April 15 in Las Vegas – is closer than ever, and the two undefeated superstars might just face off as promised.
Vasiliy Lomachenko has been mentioned alongside both names for a while now in a division that has consistently failed to make the best fights on offer.
The former unified champion lost his belts to Teofimo Lopez in 2020. Since then, he’s won three on the bounce but has been less active due to the war in his home country of Ukraine.
Now back in the division full-time, ‘Loma’ has a keen eye on the bout between Davis and Garcia – which will be set at a catchweight of 136lb but could see either man re-join the lightweight ranks in the aftermath.
The Ukrainian pound-for-pound star gave his prediction to FightHype.
“Great fight. Very great fight for fans. It’s going to be very, very interesting because we saw Ryan Garcia’s problem versus [Luke] Campbell. And we saw a problem in Davis with Romero.”
“I think Davis will win, but nobody knows … I think Davis finish him.”
Lomachenko was also reminded that he sparred Garcia, to which he replied he did, but it was ‘not a big problem.’
As Garcia and Davis finalise their terms, fans await an announcement for Lomachenko to get a shot to be the undisputed champion in the division.
It’s believed that he’ll face man-of-the-moment, Devin Haney, this year.
