Former 2x Olympic Champion, Vasyl Lomachenko will bid to claim his third divisional world title next weekend. His opponent is one of the most seasoned campaigners in the sport today in Jorge Linares.
Linares boasts a stellar record of 44-3 and holds the lineal and WBA world lightweight title around his waist, coming into the fight.
Lomachenko has seen his last four fights end with Nicolas Walters, Jose Sosa, Miguel Marriaga and Guillermo Rigondeaux all surrender on their stool.
It was clear from the action in all of those fights, Lomachenko was simply too much and they had been badly overmatched. He was basically slowly dismantling and humiliating his opponents who decided to save face and call it quits before Lomachenko decided he had enough of the games and decided to go in for the kill.

“Maybe I should change my name now to ‘NoMasChenko’,” joked Vasyl Lomachenko, much to the amusement of the fans at Madison Square Garden Theater.
“Probably they start understanding I am controlling them 100%. That’s why they start quitting,” Lomachenko told FightHub.
Lomachenko shared his belief that professional fighters who quit should not be paid.
Lomachenko added that quitting is detrimental to the sport because the other combatant cannot display his full arsenal and weaponry.
“We need a signed contract before the fight. We need a signed rule – you can’t quit.
If you quit, you’re not going to get paid. Of course, I don’t like it, because I can’t show my best skill.”

Linares represents a clear step up in class and the Venezuelan will look to make the fourth defence of his world title. Lomachenko, however, is cool and composed and is not worried at all about what his credible opponent will bring to the ring on May 12th.
Lomachenko stated outright that he knows he is a ‘different level’ to Linares. The former 2-weight world champion says he will just need the feeling out process of the first three rounds to see what Linares has in his locker, then he will look to make the necessary adjustments.
“It’s good for him, but it won’t help him. I have a different level. I need just two or three rounds, then I start to do my best job. Understand what my opponents do;” Lomachenko added.
Lomachenko lastly shared a stark warning for Linares, saying he warned the Venezuelan he will look to render his skillset useless and make him do what he pleases.
“I do things first, not letting them do what they want to do,” explaining what it means when fighters are in what he calls ‘The Matrix’.
“Sometimes if [my] opponent thinks he’s going to do something, I’m going to make him do what I want him to do.”
