Former lightweight king Vasiliy Lomachenko says he will be ready to fight again in October.
The 34-year-old Top Rank fighter has not fought since his dominant points win over Richard Commey at Madison Square Garden seven months ago. Since March the Ukrainian has been in his homeland playing his part in the fight against Russian’s invasion.
Leading boxing journalist Kevin Iole tweeted the news which came from Top Rank President Todd DuBoef who said Lomachenko had contacted them and wants a fight ‘as soon as October’. While no opponents have been mentioned the former three-belt world champion will have no shortage of potential suitors.
Per @ToddDuboef at @trboxing@VasylLomachenko has contacted the company and wants a fight as soon as October. He’s been participating in the war, defending his native Ukraine against the Russian invasion. No opponents discussed at this point. #Loma

In his 18 fights to date the highly decorated amateur has only lost twice in his career. The first came in his second professional fight when he faced Orlando Salido for the vacant WBO Super Featherweight title. And then it would be six years before Teofimo Lopez turned the 135lbs division upside down with his toppling of the great Lomachenko.
Following the defeat Lomachenko has returned to winning form with little sign of decline in his stoppage win over Masayoshi Nakatani and the unanimous decision victory against Commey.
Lomachenko is ranked the current number one WBO and WBC contender, number three with the IBF and four with the WBA. Undisputed Lightweight champion Devin Haney is tied into a rematch with George Kambosos, but the American has made no secret of the fact he would like to face Lomachenko.
Speaking to ESPN’s Mark Kriegel after returning home from his victory in Australia Haney named Lomachenko and ‘Tank’ Davis as the two fights that interested him.
