Top US promoter, Lou DiBella has made an ‘unequivocal’ pick for the winner of an Anthony Joshua versus Joe Joyce fight.
Whilst all the belts in the division are tied up in Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s efforts to become undisputed, it’s about time that all heavyweight contenders begin to face one other.
DiBella told Seconds Out he was excited by the big men just now – as are most fans – but wants to see competitive fights happen in 2023.
One that could be made is Joyce against Joshua, and the promoter has a clear vision of how it would go.
“I would unequivocally make Joyce the favourite against AJ. In fact, I think Joyce would knock AJ out.
By the way, the way I spew about Big Joe you would think I have something to do with him, but I don’t. I just am a fan. He’s an old school, physically strong, relentless heavyweight and I love watching him.”
“AJ makes good fights, even when he loses. AJ’s not a fighter that you would say is hard to watch – he’s a hell of a heavyweight.”
Joshua and Joyce have met before in the amateurs with the former coming out on top. Whilst the domestic clash in the professional ranks would be high on the lists of spectators, it’s not been mentioned by Joshua’s side.
With two losses to Usyk now behind him, the former champion is looking to start 2023 off with a win before moving into a UK versus US clash against Deontay Wilder, although he’s also expressed a keen interest in winning his old belts back.
Joyce, on the other hand, has called for the fight often. As the WBO Interim Champion, the position he holds is as good as any other challenger, and it’s a ticket for a title shot in the near future.
If Team ‘AJ’ haven’t considered it in the past, now may be the time.
