WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez will now meet fellow Mexican Moises Calleros at the Azteca Studios in Mexico City on October 23.
The experienced Calleros (33-9-1, 17 KOs) previously challenged for the WBO minimumweight crown in March 2018, losing on an eighth-round retirement to Ryuya Yamanaka in Kobe, Japan.
He steps in after previous opponent Maximino Flores, the reigning IBO flyweight champion, tested positive for Covid-19. Martinez (16-1, 12 KOs) will be making the second defence of his WBC crown, having defeated Welshman Jay Harris in Dallas in February.
On the same bill, Juan Francisco Estrada (40-3, 27 KOs) will defend his WBC super-flyweight title in a rematch with Carlos Cuadras (39-3-1, 27 KOs) whilst Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez (49-2, 41 KOs) puts his WBA Super 115lbs crown on the line against Israel Gonzalez (25-3, 11 KOs).
Estrada and Chocolatito are set for a long-awaited rematch should they both emerge victorious.
