The renowned boxing promoter Matchroom Boxing has announced the signing of a promising talent. This new addition is a silver medalist from the 2022 Commonwealth Games, now making the leap into the professional arena. With this signing, the amateur star joins the prestigious promotion led by Eddie Hearn, who expressed his excitement about having this young athlete on his team.
His first appearance will be on the highly anticipated card featuring Sunny Edwards and Galal Yafai at BP Pulse LIVE in Birmingham, on Saturday, November 30. This event, which will be broadcast worldwide on DAZN, provides significant exposure for the young boxer. At 23 years-old, Commonwealth Games 2022 silver medalist Taylor Bevan will make his professional debut in the super middleweight division.
During his amateur career, Bevan performed impressively, representing Team Wales and Team GB. He joined the Welsh camp about four years ago and, in January 2022, was called up to the British team, where he stayed for two and a half years. This international experience allowed him to compete against some of the best boxers worldwide, amassing around 100 fights and winning multiple gold medals in international tournaments.
The young boxer expressed his excitement about this career step: “I feel like I’ve been waiting to turn pro for a long time. It’s something that since I started boxing,” Bevan stated. Since he began boxing, he dreamed of competing professionally.
Now, with Matchroom’s support, he feels it’s the right time to make his move.
Though he could have waited another four years to pursue the Olympic dream in Los Angeles, Bevan chose to start his professional journey, confident he can fully develop in the ring.
Bevan has placed his trust in his training team, led by former British, European, and Commonwealth champion Colin Jones, alongside Sean McGoldrick. Both trainers bring extensive experience, and Bevan has worked with them for seven years on the Welsh team. The boxer highlights his aggressive style, quick hands, and power, which promises to draw fans’ attention.
Matchroom Sport President Eddie Hearn shared his enthusiasm about Bevan’s arrival: “Taylor joins us following a hugely successful stint in the amateurs with Team GB and Welsh Boxing,” Hearn stated. With support from an experienced team, including Colin Jones and Brian Peters, Hearn aims to lead Bevan to significant achievements in the super middleweight division.
