Michael Zerafa–Chris Eubank bout being tabbed for September in Australia

A high-profile clash between Michael Zerafa and Chris Eubank Jr. is starting to take shape.

Sources tell Brunch Boxing that organizers of the bout are targeting a September pay-per-view event in Australia. The fight would take place in Zerafa’s home country and carry major ramifications for both men.

The proposed matchup comes at a crucial moment in each fighter’s career. Both athletes enter the bout following controversial outings against heated rivals.

Michael Zerafa last fought Nikita Tszyu in a bout that ended abruptly. A clash of heads in round three caused a deep cut and forced a stoppage. Zerafa told officials he could not see, which led to the fight being ruled a no-contest.

Tszyu strongly disagreed with that outcome. He argued that Zerafa could have continued despite the injury. His frustration became clear in post-fight comments that questioned Zerafa’s resolve.

“I didn’t think it was that bad,” Tszyu said of the cut. “It’s a shame, but what can you do. At least I got two rounds out of it.”

He did not stop there. Tszyu went further and openly challenged Zerafa’s toughness.

“I definitely do think Zerafa quit,” Tszyu added. “I think he underestimated me. Once the cut happened, I think there was a bit of PTSD coming through. His emotions got the better of him.”

He continued with sharper criticism. “Some of the stuff that Paulie Malignaggi was saying, that he doesn’t have the heart and checks out, I agree. Once pain comes in, he looks for the exit.”

Reports surfaced that Tszyu petitioned the WBO to strip Zerafa of his regional title.

Chris Eubank Jr. faced his own controversy in his last appearance. He suffered a unanimous decision loss to rival Conor Benn. Many observers questioned the circumstances leading into that fight.

Weight stipulations placed heavy strain on Eubank before the opening bell. He appeared visibly drained and struggled to look physically ready. Some ringside viewers described him as exhausted even before the fight began.

Despite those challenges, Eubank pushed through the contest. Still, the loss raised concerns about his preparation and long-term direction.

Now, both fighters appear set for a crossroads moment.

An official announcement is expected soon.
