Mike Tyson has came out with some constructive criticism for current heavyweight king Tyson Fury in a recent interview.
Fury, who is named after the American icon, is widely regarded as the number one in the blue ribbon division, a position he has earned with wins over Deontay Wilder and Wladimir Klitschko.
However, Tyson told ID Boxing he believes Fury should be more active and should take less time out between fights.
“I think Tyson should fight more. He takes too much time in-between fights.”
“I fought fifteen times in one year! I’m a strong believer in having four or five fights each year.”
Tyson’s activity was a key factor in him becoming the youngest heavyweight world champion of all time, aged just 20.
“Iron Mike” did offer up some praise, however, and admitted he does feel a sense of pride every time the Brit lands another big win.
“He would have done well in every era. I always root for him – when he wins I win. I’m his number one fan.”
“It’s egotistical for me, but I’m proud of him.”
Fans will hope Fury lands perhaps his biggest fight of all next time out – an undisputed clash with masterful Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk
After a seemingly positive start to the negotiation process, there is a worry that the fight could be in jeopardy after news broke that Fury was unable to agree a deal with bidders from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who were interested in staging the event.
All roads now appear to lead to Wembley Stadium, where Fury broke the all time British boxing attendance record last May for his knockout victory over Dillian Whyte.
If a legacy defining date with the Usyk does fall through, the likes of Joe Joyce, Francis Ngannou and even a fourth fight with Wilder are all reportedly on the table for ‘The Gypsy King.’
