Mike Tyson gained notoriety as a concussive puncher, recording 20 first rounds knockouts on his way to becoming unified champion.
Despite the Brooklyn man’s formidable penchant for dispatching men inside the first three minutes, he posted a video response on social media advising the “Gyspy King” to have “more confidence” – a personality trait the outspoken heavyweight does not normally struggle with.
The video posted on Twitter said:
“Hey Tyson Fury I heard you say I’d knock you out if me and you fought – hey man you’ve got to have more confidence in yourself.
“Anything can happen in a fight – you see Buster Douglas knocked me out, anything can happen, you have to have more confidence in yourself.
“I look forward to seeing you making your comeback, take care buddy.”
I just heard that @Tyson_Fury said that I would KO him in the first round if we fought. What are your thoughts?#TysonComeBack2018#HeavyweightChamp#PodcastKinghttps://t.co/DUxIpQMcDRpic.twitter.com/zUNpTBBrLo

James “Buster” Douglas shocked the world when he scalped Mike Tyson in Tokyo. In the tenth, Douglas stunned his man and followed up with a barrage of clean shots that sent Tyson to the canvas for the first time in his career. To this today, it is still considered one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.
Tyson Fury also tasted canvas on the way to unifying the division, but it yet to be defeated.
Acknowledging the American’s personal message, Fury posted a video to his Instagram story, it said:
“Hey Mike Tyson thanks for the support champ. It’s not that I need any more self-confidence I’m just showing you the respect you deserve as a legend.”
The Brit is on the comeback trail after a much publicised fall from grace. After dethroning Wladimir Klitschko he went into free fall but has since faced up to his personal demons.
Mike Tyson returned to the sport to win world titles after years of inactivity. Whether his British namesake can imitate him remains to be seen.
