The reigning WBC lightweight champion, the masterful, undefeated Mikey Garcia will challenge for his fourth divisional world title on March 10th against the undefeated Sergey Lipinets for the IBF jr-welterweight world title.
Very recently, Garcia spoke of his plans to emulate Floyd Mayweather’s blueprint for success by conquering the best challenges in multiple weight classes.
Following his fight against Sergey Lipinets, he has shared his intention to go back down to his original weight class of 135 lbs.
He intends to unify his title with the reigning WBA lightweight kingpin, Jorge Linares.
Another potential big fight for Garcia could be against the super-featherweight world champion, Vasyl Lomachenko.

But Mikey Garcia shared that he would rather move up to the weight of 147 lbs and challenge for a title there rather than meet Lomachenko at 135 lbs.
Garcia has already stated that Errol Spence is a fight he is looking at.
He reaffirmed that belief and says that he would rather lock horns with Spence because ‘Its a bigger challenger in a big weight class.’
“I would rather fight Spence [if both he and Lomachenko were on the table]. It’s a bigger challenger, a bigger weight class.”

“People may not take me serious, but I’m coming to welterweight later,” Garcia said.
“That’s going to happen. Whether it’s at the end of this year or next year – I’m coming,” Garcia told BoxingScene.com.
Garcia says once he has concluded his unfinished business at the weight classes of 135 and 140 lbs, he will arrive in the welterweight division.
“I have to get done with these fights first at lightweight and super lightweight.”
“But I’ll be at welterweight soon, and if the opponent is offered and presented – I might be there even sooner.”
On the topic of what champion he would like to face at 147, Garcia added: “I would love the opportunity to fight Thurman or Spence.”
“If you are going to challenge for a championship, you may as well do it against the best fighter.”

Garcia says he wants to take the hardest possible challenges because that is what ‘excites’ and ‘motivates’ him.
“I don’t want to take easy fights. I want something that excites me, that motivates me.”
A title and a big name motivate me. If its Spence or Thurman, those are the biggest names at welterweight.”
