Mikey Garcia is currently scheduled to take on the undefeated IBF jr welterweight world champion, Sergey Lipinets.
If the concussive puncher is successful in that clash he will claim his fourth world title. That is a remarkable feat given Garcia only recently turned 30 less than a month ago.
Garcia also currently holds the WBC lightweight world title, despite campaigning as a jr-welterweight in the last two fights against Lipinets and Broner.

He won that title after scoring a brutal knockout of the year contender at the beginning of the year against the former titleholder Dejan Zlatičanin.
A return to the lightweight limit of 135 lbs seems like a foregone conclusion with lucrative opportunities against the WBA champion Jorge Linares or two-weight world champion and also 2-time Olympic Gold phenomenon, Vasyl Lomachenko.
Garcia discussed the Linares option in detail with RING Magazine. He suggested that they are bound to lock horns.

But, Garcia was quick to add, what is happening right now is that both have decided to take interim fights to allow time to let the unification match-up build in the public eye ahead of a summer showdown.
“Golden Boy and I were in discussions to secure the Linares fight, but they themselves also suggested that we could wait, and we both take interim matches,” Garcia said.
“They feel the financial aspect of the sport will be better if we wait, maybe sometime in the summer.”
“I still plan on fighting Linares and I would love to fight him at 135. He says he’s willing to go to 140. I’d prefer if we fight at 35 so this is the task in front of me first.”
.@mikeygarcia is in the fast lane to cement his legacy but this road to greatness isn't easy.

“I have to get through this before I can look forward to other fights. But I still look forward to that fight, hopefully we can secure that for this coming year.”
