Moses Itauma Just Named The One Rival He Thinks Will Define His Career
Moses Itauma has named WBC champion Agit Kabayel as the man he expects to be his “biggest rival” for years to come — but the 21-year-old must first navigate Filip Hrgovic for the vacant IBF title at London’s O2 Arena on August 29.
Speaking to Boxing News among other outlets, Itauma explained why Kabayel tops his list. “It’ll have to be Agit Kabayel. He’s beaten everybody that’s there. He’s beaten Zhang … he’s pretty much beaten everybody that’s rising right now, so I’d say he will probably be my biggest rival.”
The Road Ahead For Moses Itauma
Kabayel, the unbeaten 33-year-old, was elevated to full WBC champion after Usyk vacated, having claimed the interim belt by stopping Zhilei Zhang last year. He is also in line to face mandatory challenger Frank Sanchez, who, per Boxing News, has agreed step-aside money to wait in the wings. If Itauma comes through both Hrgovic and Sanchez, he would be poised to enter a unification as the youngest heavyweight champion since Mike Tyson, with Moses Itauma’s route to the top pointing firmly upward. Daniel Dubois, expected to rematch Fabio Wardley in October, also looms as a future option.
For now, Kabayel — one of the division’s most ferocious body punchers — sits at the top of Itauma’s wanted list. But none of it matters if the prospect slips up against Hrgovic first.
