IBF flyweight champion Moruti Mthalane will defend his crown against the unbeaten Sunny Edwards in the UK on May 1.
The globe-trotting Mthalane (39-2, 26 KOs) is a world champion in the truest sense, having engaged in world title fights in Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Panama, Italy, South Africa and America. The South African has not lost for over 12 years since a November 2008 defeat to Filipino banger Nonito Donaire in Las Vegas.
He represents a huge leap in class for South Londoner Edwards (15-0, 4 KOs). But the British super-flyweight champion is slick and elusive, and will be hoping his speed and vitality can outfox the 38-year-old champion.
WBO No.1 super-bantamweight contender Michael Conlan will appear on the same show, live on BT Sport in the UK, according to Mike Coppinger of ‘The Athletic’ who was the first to break the news of Mthalane-Edwards.
