Johnny Nelson insists Kell Brook still has the desire to face long-time rival Amir Khan.
The two Brits have been linked to a fight at welterweight against one another for several years. At one time the bout appeared close to happening with both men in their prime, but interest from boxing fans has since rapidly declined.
Though both men are clearly past their best, Nelson, Brook’s fellow Yorkshireman and Ingle Gym graduate, believes the former IBF welterweight champion would still take the fight.
“I can only speak from what I have seen with my own eyes and what I hear, and I hear the desire is there from Kell,” he told metro.co.uk.
“I see it there from Kell. I go into the same gym as Kell, I’m from the same city as Kell. I see that.”
The rivalry has gone on too long now and blame can be attributed to both parties for the fight not happening. Nelson, however, told Metro he struggles not to blame Khan.
“I’ve seen the excuses that have been made for why the fight hasn’t happened. And they are just that, excuses.
“I struggle not to blame Amir Khan. But I don’t know what has happened on his side or what he has been told. All I can do is wait and see what goes on.”
