Jacob Ng has called for Billy Dib to reveal his medical diagnosis, including relevant medical paperwork supporting the fact he received an injury in their bout, which saw Ng disqualified.
After being thrown to the canvas from a clinch in the sixth round, Dib’s contest with Ng was brought to an end in controversial circumstances due to injuries Dib later said he sustained upon hitting the floor.
Following the bout, Dib said, “I’m currently in hospital with a dislodged rib that caused 3 separate fractures due to being flipped on the canvas. I’m doing ok and will be back on my feet real soon.”
Despite a reported verbal agreement, Team Ng has not seen any medical information that would back up Dib’s claim of an injury.
“I’m really annoyed, this was warming up to be a good fight and it ended in controversial circumstances,” Ng said regarding the Dib fight. “All you can wish for in boxing is a fair shake, and I don’t believe I got it that night. It shouldn’t have been ruled a DQ against me, it was not an intentional foul and as of now, nobody can prove it caused an injury.
“I’m not into talking smack, I deal in facts. I respect Dib as a fighter, and as a fellow fighter, I feel that he should respect me enough to show us the relevant medical information showing an injury was caused by what was considered a foul. If he can’t do that he should come clean and admit he over-exaggerated the foul and then we can get the rematch on. He couldn’t get off the canvas and appeared in a great deal of pain judging by his reaction. If he was in that much pain surely there would be the correct medical documentation to back up his reaction.
“My team and I want the rematch, but how can we build a rematch if we don’t know he’s fit to compete? How is he intending on fighting again if he is possibly injury prone? It’s not just about clearance for me, but he needs to clear his own name in order to continue his career and be taken seriously.”
Ng versus Dib was, and is still, seen as a great crossroads fight, with the rightful winner moving into world title contention and the loser having to build back to world level. Unfortunately, there was no definitive better fighter based on their contest in March. Ng weighed in on the prospects of a second clash with Dib.
“Firstly, I feel myself and Billy owe firstly the fight fans, but also ACE Boxing Group a second fight,” Ng said. “The team at ACE Boxing, Angelo DiCarlo, my father Stephen, and many others put so much effort into putting together the event at the Star Casino on the Gold Coast, and we owe it to them to find a definitive winner.
“My takeaway from the rounds I did with Billy was that I am at that level, and I will show that if we box again. I’m a better fighter than the fighter he is now and ever was, and I’ll show that by taking him apart in a rematch we both owe to the Australian boxing public.”
