The remarkable boxing career of Francis Ngannou continues on March 8 when he faces a second modern-day great of the sport in only his second fight.
His debut came in October against the WBC and Lineal champion Tyson Fury and saw him shock the world – not with a win, but almost.
He boxed better than many had foreseen and even hit Fury with a knockdown in the third round. He got inserted into the WBC rankings as a result and now goes right back in with another Brit in two-time former champion Anthony Joshua.
Ngannou’s coach Dewey Cooper has been speaking to Seconds Out and was asked who was more of a threat between the two opponents.
“This fight is a different fight to the Tyson Fury fight. The Dynamics are different. Fury is a highly skilled guy and difficult to match skill and brains and IQ with.
“Joshua is a stronger guy, he’s more of a threat, he has that power, a strong jab and that excellent right hand. He’s a big strong guy like Francis Ngannou so you got two Herculean dudes going against each other so aesthetically it’s gunna look like heavyweight boxing is supposed to look.”
He then claimed his man’s mental fortitude will lead him to victory.
“The grit, will, and desire of Francis Ngannou will be stronger and outdo that same thing in Anthony Joshua. Joshua has power so we have to be very sharp and strong, and those are two things we plan on doing anyway so it’s another day at the office for us.”
