O’Shaquie Foster has his next fight after scored a lopsided decision win over Stephen Fulton in his last bout, and will now defend his WBC super featherweight world title against Raymond Ford at the Fertitta Center in Houston, Texas, on Saturday, May 30 atop a Matchroom card on DAZN.
Foster, a Texan himself, is building a sneakily good resume in the 130-pound division, with wins over Abraham Nova, Robson Conceicao, and Fulton all in the last two years.
The challenger, Ford, suffered the only L of his pro career when fighting Nick Ball in Riyadh in 2024 but has since rebounded with a succession of decision wins over Orlando Gonzalez, Thomas Mattice, and Nova. Foster is the toughest test of his career to date.
Foster vowed to “dominate from round one” in a statement sent to Boxing Social, with Ford adding: “I’m just happy he finally signed the contract.”
Matchroom chairman, Eddie Hearn, beamed: “What a fight this is!”
“O’Shaquie is a fantastic boxer, always in exciting fights, and a worthy world ruler. But we’ve been here before – Ray stopped a Top Rank man to become king of the World in enemy territory, and on May 30, we believe lightning strikes twice and ‘Savage’ gets the strap on a magic night in Texas.”
Todd du Boef, of Top Rank, said: “O’Shaquie Foster solidified his place among the division’s elite by dismantling Stephen Fulton in December.”
“Now, he will defend his crown on his home turf against another former world champion in Raymond Ford.
“Recently, there’s been a lot of animosity brewing between the two, and we expect Foster to silence the chatter with a dominant performance.”
The event marks a solid addition to Matchroom’s offering which continues April 18 with a fight between Britain’s Benjamin Whittaker and Braian Suarez.
Beyond that, the promoter has Miller vs Pero on April 25, Nicolson vs Turner on April 29, Walker vs Eggington on May 2, Usyk vs Verhoven on May 23, Smith vs Puello on June 6 and Zayas vs Ennis on June 27.
