After a disappointing performance against Josh Taylor, 25 year old Ohara Davies made sure the same would not happen against Tom Farrell in Liverpool.
Farrell arrived to the ring with a perfect 13-0 record but suffered his first professional defeat in brutal fashion against the rising super lightweight Davies.
It became clear right from the start that Davies was after blood. He connected with big shots and caused trouble with multiple strong rights. In the final moments of the round he dropped Farrell to the floor with a big left hook but Farrell got up just in time.
The hometown favourite got decked again in the second round and shortly after getting up, Davies put him back to his place – on the canvas.
Farrell wasn’t finding any luck at this point but after the knockdowns he got a second wind and started gaining a bit of momentum, especially through his countershots.
But still, it was mostly Davies in control and the Londoner took care of business in the sixth round. He landed ferocious straight rights and knocked Farrell down for the last time.
“It was redemption, I’m not happy with my performance, there is still a lot to improve on and I’m looking forward to continuing my journey.
“There was a lot of negativity after my last fight, I had a lot of issues before that defeat, since then I’ve knuckled down, listened to my coach and I’m glad to be back to winning ways,” said Davies after the fight.
With the TKO win, the Londoner became the new WBA International super lightweight champion and now holds a record 16 wins and one loss.
Despite the victory, Liverpool left a bad taste in Davies’ mouth.
He said he was a Fan, as long as I'm in this City I will never take another picture with a Liverpudlian ever again! pic.twitter.com/pb2x1ZlbMK
