WBC interim title bout being touted to determine O’Shaquie Foster opponent

O’Shaquie Foster has become a name synonymous with fire fights over the last couple of years and the American now appears to be the top player at super-featherweight. However, should the WBC interim clash that is being proposed be made, the victor is sure to push the champion to the limit.

Foster outpointed Rey Vargas for the then vacant WBC super-featherweight title back in February 2023 but it was eight months later where ‘Ice Water’ truly earned respect, knocking out Eduardo ‘Rocky’ Hernandez in the final round of his first defence whilst behind on the scorecards in a fight of the year contender.

The Texan would made one additional defence of his 130lb crown against Abraham Nova before being on the wrong side of the most controversial decision of 2024, losing a split-decision to Robson Conceicao after appearing to win almost every round.

Thankfully, Foster got an instant chance at redemption and last month he was able to regain the super-featherweight throne with a closer-fought split-decision victory over the Brazilian, marking a run of five incredibly arduous contests for the 31-year-old and that run is showing no signs of coming to an end.

A clash between WBC #2 ‘Rocky’ Hernandez and former WBC featherweight champion Mark Magsayo (WBC #3) was mentioned by Filipino Media’s Anthony Joaquin Arieta on social media, with members of both teams then lobbying for what would likely be a showdown for the WBC interim title, each claiming to have sent the other an offer.

Hector Fernandez de Cordova [Hernandez’s manager]: “Where do we sign?”

“Matchroom Boxing sent an offer to Magsayo’s team not long ago, waiting on response.”

Sean Gibbons [Magsayo’s manager]: “PBC sent Matchroom an offer, you need not wait anymore!!”

Both Fernandez and Gibbons were also seen to be applying pressure on the WBC to order the contest at their convention in Hamburg next month.

Although, Magsayo does have a fight date pencilled in for December 14th in California against an unnamed opponent, after fighting just once in 2024 thus far.
