In a rare turn of events, IBF super middleweight champion Osleys Iglesias has been called out. However, the offer has not been taken seriously by the Cuban southpaw.
The 28-year-old knockout artist, who secured the vacant IBF belt with an eighth-round retirement of Pavel Silyagin earlier this month, has had a public spat with WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames on X.
Iglesias (15-0, 14 KOs) responded to Adames’ post which said: “I’m one of the best fighters in the world. Nobody at 160 or 168 can beat me.”
The X account of Hassan had responded to the post saying, “Carlos Adames vs Osleys Iglesias at 168!” The post with a picture of both fighters was commented on by Adames saying “I’m ready.”
However, Iglesias returned his own opinion on the potential fight: “This is just a talker,” Iglesias posted on X, quoting the previous post. “I’m ready too. You don’t want this fire, little horse. You’ve got a lot to do in your division, since you’re dodging everyone. And you want to get attention, calling out a real executioner. You’re making me laugh. It’s not the same as calling the tornado.”
Adames fired back: “Who are you? What I do up in the ring backs up what I say down here. Whenever you want, I’m ready for you to prove it to you. What fire? I’ve got a fire extinguisher.”
Adames (25-1-1, 18 KOs) was elevated to WBC world champion in May 2024. The Dominican has since defended his title against Terrell Gausha, Hamzah Sheeraz and Austin Williams. The 31-year-old has recently expressed an ambition to move up in weight following his latest victory, dropping Williams on way to a unanimous decision in Las Vegas last month.
Iglesias has struggled to find opponents, even for a vacant world title shot. Silyagin took the call after multiple challengers ranked in the top ten by the IBF turned the opportunity down.
