Joseph Parker is riding high from his victory over Deontay Wilder and now has his sights set on a huge rematch with another big name.
Parker proved many doubters wrong when he took on Wilder on the huge Day of Reckoning card that took place on December 23 out in Saudi Arabia.
The man who has previously lost to the likes of Dillian Whyte, Joe Joyce and Anthony Joshua boxed to a great game plan and pushed the big American puncher backward for almost all of the 12 rounds.
He took a wide and unanimous points victory that now puts him right back into world title contention. He previously held the WBO title after taking it from Andy Ruiz, though lost it to Joshua back in Cardiff in 2018 when the WBA and IBF belts were also up for grabs.
Now, speaking to Sky Sports, Parker’s promoter David Higgins claims Parker deserves another shot at Joshua.
“Joseph has earned that fight in my opinion and the Saudis would see merit in Parker against Anthony Joshua. It might not be next, there might be a bit more work to do but I think that’s the fight fans want to see. It’s a merit-based fight.
Higgins then stated Parker would fight anyone, as he has proven so far in his career, and Parker is still only 31 years old.
“We’ll fight Anthony Joshua in a heartbeat. Everyone knows Joseph will fight him next but I am not sure that’s an option. We’ll obviously look at any option and see what comes forward.
“I can’t speak for their [Anthony Joshua] team, but they are probably trying to rebuild to a point and have a big fight against the likes of Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk.
“Maybe Joseph, especially after the way he handled his business with Wilder, is probably seen as high risk.”
Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott is one man who has been keen to give Parker credit after his win.
