Peter Fury spoke out about a potential future fight for nephew Tyson, and believes there is one heavyweight in particular who could cause ‘The Gypsy King’ problems.
Peter trained Tyson for large swathes of his career, including his historic win over long reigning heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf back in 2015.
And, in a recent interview with IFL TV, Uncle Peter described another Ukrainian as a “different ball game” For WBC champion Fury.
“Tyson’s definitely above Joshua and Wilder, but Usyk’s a different ball game. He’s a tough fight for anybody.”
“He’s not a walk in the park and he’s not a small heavyweight.”
“That’s a close call, that fight. That could go either way, Usyk is a dangerous operator. I think everybody in Tyson’s team will even know that, so he’s not to be overlooked.”
“Usyk belongs where he is, he’s a serious fighter. Styles make fights – they just need to get it on.”
Earlier this year, it looked like fans would find out which of the divisions two premier fighters was truly number one, as Usyk and Fury attempted to negotiate a blockbuster undisputed clash.
However, much to the disappointment of the boxing world, these talks publicly collapsed and both men have moved in different directions, for the short term at least.
There is fresh hope we could see the pair lock horns towards the end of the year, with Skill Challenge Group in Saudi Arabia looking to stage an unprecedented heavyweight card in December.
The plan would be for Fury to face Usyk for all the marbles, with Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder fighting on the same bill.
