Former IBF world welterweight champion; Shawn ‘Showtime’ Porter (27-2-1) has been very vocal in his opinions concerning the former 2-weight world champion Danny Garcia (33-1) ahead of his showdown with Adrian Granados this upcoming weekend on the undercard of the Wilder vs Stiverne heavyweight championship rematch. Porter had become increasingly vocal in recent months as he attempted to goad Garcia into a lucrative clash, an attempt which ultimately proved fruitless.
Porter touched on the skullduggery on Garcia’s part, declaring explicitly Garcia is attempting to bamboozle boxing fans into believing he actually wanted the fight after he made no attempt to reach a deal when Porter looked to originally make the fight. “The week after we signed to fight Granados, Garcia comes out and says,’ I’ll fight Shawn Porter, that would be a great fight. I’ll knock him out, he’s tailor made for me.’ I just thought to myself, ‘This dude is full of sh*t’ because every phone call that could’ve possibly been made, was made to take this fight to be the main event here on this card in Brooklyn and he wanted absolutely nothing to do with it” Porter said.
Shawn Porter’s father and trainer, Kenny Porter also added his input to the scenario and lifted the lid further on the negotiation process, saying after the unified WBA and WBC champion, Keith Thurman had been ruled out for the foreseeable future, a match with Garcia was earmarked as the best move going forward. “Of course we wanted Keith Thurman. That wasn’t going to happen for us. Keith had an elbow injury and some other stuff going on in his personal life. He got married, went to Kathmandu. I figured the next best guy – which the WBC said we could fight – was Danny Garcia.” Kenny Porter said
“I figured, ‘OK, that’s the next best thing. Let’s get it, let’s make it happen.’ Nah. But that’s who we we’re going for and we attempted to get that fight together on numerous occasions and there was absolutely no response from the camp of Garcia – Kenny Porter went on to explain his viewpoint “they wanted nothing to do with Shawn” Kenny Porter stated.

Ahead of this weekend’s upcoming encounter with Adrien Granados, Kenny Porter also touched on his son’s conditioning and preparation ahead of a match that will cap off a gruelling, busy 2017. Kenny Porter scoffed at those suggestions and says his activity has allowed him to reach his peak condition “This will be the first time in a long time Shawn has fought this many times in one year. So he’s in the best shape of his life. We hear people say that kind of stuff all the time but he definitely is in the best condition, physical and mental shape in his life for any sport he’s ever played,” Kenny Porter concluded.
