Queensberry Promotions have won the rights to stage the European super-bantamweight title fight between champion Jason Cunningham and their challenger Brad Foster.
Promoter Frank Warren told Boxing Social of the news today and was delighted at winning the purse bids.
“We beat Matchroom,” said Warren.
“I think we’re going to announce the fight this week,” he added.
Doncaster’s Cunningham (29-6, 6 KOs) turned in a career best performance to beat Gamal Yafai to capture the title in Manchester last month. The 31-year-old, who lost to Michael Conlan three years ago, had so often been the bridesmaid in title fights during his career but put in a brilliant display to comfortably beat Yafai on Sky Sports.
Undefeated Foster has been moving along nicely at (14-0-2) with Queensbury. The 23-year-old from Walsall is the current British and Commonwealth super-bantamweight champion having beat Josh Wale back in 2019 to win the vacant Lonsdale belt. Foster would then pick up the Commonwealth strap against Ashley Lane two months on from his win against Wale.
Cunningham v Foster has all the makings of a very good European title fight. The champion has now delivered on the big stage and will hope to boost his world ranking by beating Foster having debuted at number 12 in the recent IBF rankings, one position behind Foster.
