Hasim Rahman Jr is in the market for a dance partner for his Misfits Boxing x DAZN: X Series main event this weekend in Austin Texas.
The son of heavyweight legend of the same name took to Twitter to send his prayers to Vitor Belfort – the man he was due to fight. Belfort is reportedly suffering from a bout of Covid-19 and unable to compete on the card.
Rahman Jr, who was due to face Jake Paul before a weight dispute stopped the promotion in its tracks, is now looking for an opponent to headline the card that will see crossover boxing in full force, with former sports stars, influencers, and social media personalities facing off in the ring.
Boxing Scene are reporting today that one option for a replacement opponent is big-punching former heavyweight, Shannon Briggs.
Briggs is 50-years-old, without a fight since 2016, and it’s unclear if he has been training as a reserve or would be brought in on a lack of preparation.
‘The Cannon’ had 68 fights in his professional career, with 60 wins and 53 knockouts. Notable losses came to the likes of Vitali Klitschko and Lennox Lewis.
The Klitschko fight was his second challenge for a world title, having previously won the WBO Heavyweight belt but losing it in his first defence.
Despite competing in the same era and division, Briggs never fought Rahman Jr’s father, Hasim Rahman Sr.
Briggs has been around this side of the sport for a while now. He trained Logan Paul for the American superstar’s fight against KSI. The Eddie Hearn promoted event is often credited with skyrocketing the popularity of the so-called YouTube boxing.
Rahman Jr’s last outing was a KO loss to Kenzie Morrison. Boxing Scene also reports that another potential replacement is Greg Hardy – an American footballer and mixed martial artist who has one professional boxing match under his belt.
