WBC No.1 light-heavyweight contender Gilberto Ramirez is a free agent after his contract with promoter Top Rank expired.
The split was amicable and now former WBO super-middleweight champion Ramirez (40-0, 26 KOs) is free to pursue other opportunities.
“As I move in a different direction, I would like to thank Bob Arum and the entire Top Rank family for supporting my career and always being professional,” said Ramirez on Instagram.
“I look forward to the next chapter of my life and being back in the ring this year. There are many exciting fights that can happen in the [175lbs] division and I’m here to take over!”
Mexican southpaw Ramirez, 29, appeared set for greater stardom after outpointing Arthur Abraham to win the WBO 168lbs crown in April 2016, but his career didn’t really catch light after five defences.
A move to 175lbs was inevitable given his 6ft 2ins frame and ‘Zurdo’ is seemingly poised to meet heavy-handed WBC/IBF champion Artur Beterbiev when boxing regains normality after the Covid-19 Pandemic.
