Former two-weight world champion, Ricky Hatton, has named a fight in boxing’s premier division that he would like to see made ahead of all others.
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk – the two champions of the big men – are deep in negotiations for a historic fight to crown an undisputed champion for the first time since Lennox Lewis.
For many though, it’s a non-title fight that offers more excitement than the one for all the belts in the division. Ricky Hatton told Beanyman News that Anthony Joshua versus Deontay Wilder sits atop his list for heavyweight fights.
“I think that’s the best fight out there. I mean you want to see Usyk and Tyson because they’re number one and number two, but if you ask me what fight I’d rather see in the heavyweight division I’d say Joshua and Wilder all day long. You’d pay all day long for that wouldn’t you?
I wouldn’t like to say [who wins] – I think it would be a case of who lands first.”
Wilder is known by many as one of the hardest hitters the sport has ever seen. In the other corner, ‘AJ’ is no soft puncher either, and has a nice ability to put combinations together to finish off his opponents.
The UK vs US heavyweight showdown would sell incredibly well, and not many would be putting bets on it going the distance.
A fight between the pair has been long called for by fans, no more so than when they both were champions. Since then, they’ve both lost their belts to the two men mentioned above, but the intrigue remains.
Despite a once poor relationship between the two camps, things are looking up and both teams are publicly discussing the potential for a fight next year.
Both fighters are looking to make their way back into title contention, and a meeting on the way there seems almost inevitable at this point.
