Guillermo Rigondeaux will take on Vasyl Lomachenko this weekend in Madison Square Garden. The matchup is set to be one of the most masterful fights in recent memory.
Rigondeaux has struggled to secure a stellar matchup since taking on Nonito Donaire in 2013. He now has a chance to secure one of the most high profile victories in recent times.
Rigondeaux has seen fights fall through against champions such as Leo Santa Cruz and Carl Frampton. On that topic Rigondeaux shared:
“Do not mention all those ‘men’ like Leo Santa Cruz, or Carl Frampton, who do not want to fight with men.”
“It’s better ask them who wants to fight me, I’ll fight with anyone,” Rigondeaux said to ESPN Deportes.
“[Lomachenko] is a good fighter, a quality fighter who has talent, and he is a world champion.
“It’s a good fight, which will remain in history, and even in the Guinness records, with two multiple Olympic champions.”
When everything is said and done this much I want you to remember. @VasylLomachenko is the best there is right now on #boxing and that is the reason I want 2fight him. In 2018 it is up 2u 2demand Dbest vs Dbest because otherwise what is D point 2 call your self a champion.🥊

“It’s something that will be seen for the first time in boxing.”
Rigondeaux added on the topic of the first time two, two-time Olympic gold medalists will collide inside of a professional ring.
Rigondeaux is very confident in his chances, furthermore ‘El Chacal’ dismissed claims suggesting he has struggle given he hasn’t fought past the third round since 2015.
“[That does not worry me] at all, that does not affect me, we have trained very well, I am 100% and I will show it to the whole world,” Rigondeaux said.
“There are bigger things than that in my sports career, but it would be something important [to beat him] and better things will come after this fight.”

Additionally, Rigondeaux has claimed that his preparations have gone according to plan.
“I am one hundred percent because we are fast, well prepared and that is what we know best: speed, the ability to fight, and we will do very well.”
Many of the factors in the tale of the tape, seem to indicate a clear advantage for Lomachenko.
That doesn’t concern Rigondeaux at all. “I’m fine and I know what I have to do in the ring – the one that should worry is Lomachenko.”
On a final note, Rigondeaux also claimed he is not concerning himself with any judgements on who the judges could potentially be. Rigondeaux says his focus is on providing a spectacle where there is no doubt he has been victorious.
“I’m not worried at all [about the judges], I do not care, I just know that I have to do my job and win convincingly, win very clearly.”
