Moments before Gervonta Davis ended proceedings against Hector Luis Garcia, the referee paused the action because of a ringside altercation.
The argument went viral with fans on social media questioning what had happened to warrant a pause in the fight. It’s now been revealed that the two men at the centre of the argument were rapper Meek Mill and former world featherweight champion, Gary Russell Jr.

It appears that the argument was about the fight, with Meek Mill later posting on social media that he missed ‘Tank’s big finish because of it. Russell Jr, it seems, didn’t appreciate the Grammy-nominated rapper backing Davis for the KO.
“I almost fought a boxer telling him this fight not going 12 rounds I missed the big bomb.”
Stephen Espinoza, President of Showtime Sports, told Fight Hub TV that the conflict ended without anybody getting hurt.
“We had different fanbases. We had the Russells, we had Meek Mill, we had a bit of conflict. Everybody walked away with no problems just a lot of yelling and pushing.”
It certainly didn’t put Davis off, who delivered some powerful left hands at the end of the round which left Garcia hurt. The fighter from the Dominican Republic returned to his corner and would retire on his stool, saying that he ‘couldn’t see.’
‘Tank’ moves ahead, still undefeated, into a potential fight with Ryan Garcia. The bout has reportedly been set for April 15 in Las Vegas, with Showtime and DAZN working collaboratively to offer the pay-per-view.
Garcia commented on the Davis victory, confirming the date, and Davis himself seemed keen for the matchup in the post fight press conference.
