The legendary 4-weight world champion, Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez is back in the gymnasium as he looks to realign his career following surrendering his undefeated record against the rugged Sor Rungvisai. Before being conclusively knocked cold in the fourth round of their rematch.
The all-action fighter returned to the Roger Deshon gym in Managua, Nicaragua, where he`s been working with trainer Gustavo Herrera.
The Nicaraguan is aiming to be back in the ring again by April. Furthermore, he added he is planning on fighting once more in his homeland.
Additionally, the four-weight world champion shared that he turned down a chance to fight for yet another world title against Kal Yafai.
The former champion shared he just needs time to ensure he is physically and mentally ready before returning to the world championship level of the sport.
“I have had a wonderful time in 2017. This is the year where I have rested the most. I`ve enjoyed my family. Now beginning the training stage, and with God´s help we will return to the ring in April, I’m ready to fight in Nicaragua,” Gonzalez started.
“I just don’t know how I’m going to feel in the ring again. I have to see how I feel after the knockout I received by Rungvisai.”
“I will take a preparatory fight. Take my time in order to be a world champion again.”
“I was offered a fight with Khalid Yafai in the United States on the Superfly 2 card on February 24. But I did not want to do it.”
“Four-time world champion, now I want to continue managing my career without haste. Although, my goal is to be world champion this year.”
“Everything is possible depending on the situation, I do not know how I’m going to feel in the preparation fight, I have to see how I feel after the knockout I received against Sr. Rungvisai.
“I want to make a soft fight, be a champion of the world and then unify titles.
I’m not in a hurry to be a champion, but I would take the fight with Yafai later on,” Chocolatito concluded.
