Roy Jones Jr has offered some sincere advise to Errol Spence Jr following his punishing loss to Terence Crawford last month.
So one sided and brutal was the fight, that concerns for Spence’s long term health and well being emerged, particularly if he he decides to enact a contractual rematch clause for another stab at Crawford.
Speaking to Real Lyfe Productions, hall of famer Jones implored Spence to listen to his body and, if he doesn’t feel up to carrying on, “go and enjoy your life.”
“Forget what people say! You made a lot of money and you did something that a lot of people will never do. You became a unified world champion – even after falling out of a car and a hundred miles an hour. You’re lucky to be even alive.”
“You were one half of a super fight. If you can do it again, cool. If you can’t, what do you have to worry about? You got paid brother, go and enjoy your life – if your body can’t hold up.”
Some would argue that Jones would do well to heed his own advice. Aged 54, he had a professional fight earlier this year, a points loss to former UFC fighter Anthony Pettis.
In the post fight press conference, Spence expressed his desire to take on Crawford once again, though that he would prefer to move up in weight to 154lbs for a second fight.
‘The Truth’ will have until the end of this month to decide whether he wants to take on Crawford in a rematch, go down a different route or even hang up the gloves altogether.
