Roy Jones Jr has revealed that out all of his opponents, Mike Tyson’s power stood out from the rest, and actually felt like a horse and kicked him.
Jones is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters of all time, having won world titles at four weight classes, from middleweight all the way up to heavyweight.
However, even with his long and storied professional career, ‘Superman’ said it was actually one of the boxers he faced in an exhibition whose power took him aback.
Speaking on ESNews, Jones admitted former undisputed heavyweight world champion Tyson surprised him with both his power and his evasiveness, even in retirement.
“First time that dude hit me in the chest, it felt like a horse kicked me in the chest – I was like ‘gosh!'”
“I couldn’t believe he could still hit so hard. And, what was more fascinating, I couldn’t believe that he was still so hard to hit.”
“You can’t overreach with him, because if you overreach, he’ll get you. And as I said, he kicks like a horse.”
Jones and Tyson locked horns at the Staples Centre back in 2020, however there were no fans in attendance due to Coronavirus restrictions in place at the time.
Despite ‘Iron Mike’ out-landing Jones by a wide margin according to Compubox numbers, the fight was controversially scored as a split draw by the three ringside judges.
Clearly not content with the exhibition, Jones will make a return to full professional competition in two weeks’ time when he takes on former UFC champion Anthony Pettis at the Gamebred Boxing 4 event on April 1st.
Now aged 54, there have been widespread concerns about the safety of ‘RJJ’ going into the contest.
Tyson, on the other hand, has recently said that George Foreman was the heaviest puncher of all time.
