Roy Jones Jr has weighed in a potential clash between Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez, and admits he is struggling to pick between the pair.
There is speculation that undisputed lightweight king Haney may decide to move up in weight to super lightweight, where Lopez now holds the WBO strap following his excellent win over Josh Taylor last month.
Speaking to FightHub, four weight world champion Jones claimed a strong case could be made for either fighter, though he just gave the edge to Lopez.
“You’ve got to favour Teo, because he beat two different pound for pound guys in different weight classes. He’s got the edge right now, but that’s a very good fight.”
“Devin would be coming up for that. You might look at the fact Devin beat Kambosos twice, and he beat Teofimo! You could look at it that way and say Devin’s the better fighter.”
“Either guy could be the favourite and that’s why those type of fights make for great fights. Because you’ve got two guys, left could win or right could win.”
‘The Takeover’ has not been shy in criticising Haney over recent weeks, ranking him as the easiest possible fight when compared to countrymen Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis
The WBO give undisputed champions who move up in weight mandatory status for their belts, meaning a mouthwatering clash between Lopez and Haney in the not too distant future is a real possibility.
However, a clash between Haney and WBC world champion Regis Prograis looks more likely at this stage, should ‘The Dream’ indeed move up to 140lbs.
