Former world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr (34-2, 22 KOs) will face perennial contender Luis Ortiz on September 4 in Los Angeles.
The fight takes place at the Crypto.com Arena and will be shown live on FOX Pay-Per-View in America. No undercard details have been announced so far.
Ruiz has been linked to several opponents since his last win over Chris Arreola 13 months ago. The 32-year-old had been due to headline a Triller Pay-Per-View on July 16 against Tyrone Sprong, but a deal had already been struck for the Ortiz fight.
Ortiz (33-2, 28 KOs) has won two fights in a row against Alexander Flores and Charles Martin, respectively, since his rematch defeat to Deontay Wilder in November 2019. The Cuban had been ordered to fight Filip Hrgovic in an IBF final eliminator following his win over Martin on January 1 but suffered a hand injury which prevented him from facing the Croat.
Ruiz too has had injury problems having undergone knee surgery three months after beating Arreola.
Both fighters have top ten rankings in three of the four governing bodies. In the IBF top ten Ortiz is currently at number two, with the number one slot vacant. Ruiz highest position across the board is at fifth with the WBC.
