After weeks of waiting, the results for Ryan Garcia’s B sample for his positive failed test has been revealed.
Garcia shocked the world when he defeated Devin Haney at the Barclays Center in New York on April 20.
It had been an extremely controversial build-up, with many questioning the mental state of ‘King Ry’ due to a number of bizarre comments he made in the months leading into the fight.
Things seemed to go from bad to worse when Garcia then weighed in 3lbs overweight, making him ineligible to win Haney’s WBC super-lightweight title.
Despite the issues, ‘King Ry’ put in a tremendous performance, dropping Haney multiple times on his way to a unanimous decision win.
The victory was soon tainted though, after it was revealed that Garcia tested positive for ostarine in tests conducted on fight week and on fight night.
‘King Ry’ has pleaded his innocence throughout, and even requested that his B sample be tested, with those results now official and reported by boxing journalist Dan Rafael.
“BREAKING: Ryan Garcia’s B sample results were returned Thursday a.m., 1 day after being opened. I have the lab reports & the B samples, as expected, matched A samples — both are positive for the banned PED Ostarine related to VADA tests the day before & after Haney fight.”
The B sample also being positive means it is expected that Garcia will now receive a lengthy ban, but he has already made a shock suggestion for what he will do if that happens.
As for Haney, he has been campaigning for the defeat to Garcia to be overturned, and is expected to return to the ring this summer with a mandatory defence of his WBC super-lightweight title against Sandor Martin.
