Ryan Garcia believes that Canelo Alvarez is making poor decisions as undisputed super-middleweight champion recently, agreeing with the opinion of many fans that he is avoiding one opponent and taking on easier alternatives.
Since Canelo lost to Dmitry Bivol in 2022, some onlookers feel that the Mexican has looked below-par, despite winning all three contests thereafter.
The four-belt 168lb champion first returned to face long-term rival Gennady Golovkin, in what proved to be an underwhelming trilogy bout, where he won on the cards, as he did against both John Ryder and Jermell Charlo, opponents some felt he should stop.
With eyebrows raised amid suspicions that Canelo could be on the decline, further pressure has been applied on the champion as demands continue to grow for a fight between he and David Benavidez.
However, Alvarez isn’t facing the hard-hitting mandatory challenger, instead opting to face another countryman in Jaime Munguia, who extended his undefeated record to 43-0 with a knockout win over Ryder in January.
On social media, Ryan Garcia declared that, if he were Canelo, he would have attempted to silence his critics and taken on Benavidez, rather than allowing rumours that he is ducking the 27-year-old to blossom into a serious dent into his legacy as an all-time-great.
“I don’t want to shoot shots at anybody right now. Would I have already fought Benavidez? Yes. But that is his own business. Yes, I would’ve already fought Benavidez if I was him.”
Canelo-Munguia will take place on May 4th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, for what could be Alvarez’s biggest test since he suffered a second career defeat.
