Ryan Garcia and Errol Spence have continued their feud after they clashed about a potential date for them to come together in the ring.
This rivalry between Garcia and Spence was first sparked by a recent dispute involving boxing coach Derrick James. Garcia publicly accused Spence of failing to compensate James for his coaching services, leading to James filing a lawsuit against Spence that alleged fraud and breach of contract following Spence’s bout against Terence Crawford.
Garcia took to social media site X to taunt Spence about his loss to Crawford.
“Please let’s run it I will gladly destroy you and finish the job”
Spence came back with his own taunt about Garcia’s loss to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.
“Tank didn’t get to finish you Cause you quit like a h*e like we knew you would do. go find someone to play with ..”
The tension escalated after Spence engaged in the further social media exchange with Garcia, adamantly dismissing any possibility of them facing off in the ring.
Despite Spence’s reluctance, Garcia has actively promoted the potential fight, even releasing a poster, and claims to have reached out to his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, to organise the bout with a specific fight date in mind.
”Bye bye Spence August 10th Dallas cowboys stadium SELL OUT CROWD.”
“Stop letting this boy get a pass like we don’t remember you taking a knee & getting up at 10 .. coward as f**k”
This week, Garcia has been involved in a drug testing scandal when news broke that he failed two tests, one before and one after, his fight with Devin Haney for the WBC super lightweight title back in April.
He has denied any wrongdoing but will have to fight that case against the New York State Athletic Commission before he is able to return to the ring.
Spence’s reluctance to entertain the idea of facing Garcia as a potential opponent could stem from a mix of pride and strategic considerations regarding Garcia’s current status in the sport, and the fact that he himself has not fought since he lost by knockout to Terrence Crawford in their undisputed welterweight contest last July.
