The fight, undoubtedly one of the biggest to be made in the sport, has been rumoured to be in discussion for over a year there was a sense of pessimism growing amongst fans that it would never be finalised.
The boxing world now will fix their attention to Davis and Garcia’s promoters, Leonard Ellerbe and Oscar De La Hoya respectively, for something that more resembles an official statement.
The two have been involved in a petty back and forth for months, the latest instalment of which came in the form of a nightclub bust up where Garcia accused ‘Tank’ of grabbing his chain.
Fans will now hope the two finally get the chance to settle their differences in the ring, as opposed to in clubs and by trading pot shots across social media.
Davis, however, has other fish to fry before he can focus on a potential fight with Garcia. The Baltimore puncher has a court date in December where he will stand trial for a November 2020 alleged hit and run case. If found guilty, the 27-year-old could be looking at time behind bars.
