Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia are preparing for what is sure to be one of 2024’s most high-profile events, despite Garcia’s concerning behaviour in recent days. With ‘King Ry’ now expected to fight, he has released some footage to show his fans that he is training well.
Garcia’s erratic and uncharacteristic social media posts have gone well beyond the metric of mind games ahead of the all-American showdown, sparking genuine concern from family and friends and leading to suggestions that he should withdraw from the bout.
Both Shakur Stevenson and Adrien Broner have offered to step in and replace ‘King Ry’, with the WBC super-lightweight title up for grabs, yet promoter Oscar De La Hoya, has assured fans that his fighter will in fact appear in the main-event in Brooklyn.
On social media, Garcia backed up these comments by posting some pad work with his head trainer, Derrick James, who is in his corner for the second time, after replacing Joe Goossen and taking the reins for the win over Oscar Duarte in December.

Meanwhile, Haney has announced that his contest will be his last fight where he is forced to train before Ramadan, due to the obvious difficulties of balancing fasting and religion with fight preparation that are sure to cause complications during training camp.
For now, the fight appears back on track, with the newfound rivals poised to battle it out for super-lightweight gold on April 20th in New York, live on DAZN.
Undercard details are expected to be announced imminently, including a proposed bout between Arnold Barboza Jr (29-0) and Jorge Chavez (10-0).
