Ryan Garcia has made his first comments after shockingly missing weight against Devin Haney for their showdown on Saturday.
Garcia’s clash with Haney was one of the most anticipated fights of 2024 so far, although many observers had concerns about the bout going ahead due to the behaviour of ‘King Ry’ in the build up to the contest.
Social media has seen Garcia make a number of outlandish and bizarre statements over the past few months, and there were even doubts from some about whether he would make it to fight week.
He appeared to prove the doubters wrong this week, but those concerns over his preparation looked to be accurate when he weighed in 3.2lbs over the contracted 140lb weight.
It means that Garcia is ineligible to win Haney’s WBC super-lightweight title, and after seemingly appear to drink a beer on stage, he gave his first comments on missing weight at the ceremonial weigh-in broadcast on DAZN on Friday.
“Enough of that funny business. We got a fight tomorrow. I did my best to make this weight. I put myself through hell. At the end of the day I’m the best fighter here. I’m going to knock him out and everybody will be cheering.”

Haney then gave his thoughts on Garcia missing weight, and felt he knew it would happen.
“He’s very unprofessional. I told him yesterday his antics would betray him. This is just the start, tomorrow the world will see that I’m levels above this average fighter.”
Haney vs. Garcia takes place on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and can be viewed live on DAZN PPV.
